Gorgany Race 2008 (English)

Adventure race “Gorgany Race 2008″ took place on 28-29th of June in a mountain region Gorgany of the Ukrainian part of the Carpathian Mountains.

Gorgany is the wildest and the most uninhabited region of the Carpathian Mountains. Gorgany remain the unique nature reserve with plants and and mountains one would never meet in other parts of the Carpathians. River Limnytsia was considered to be the cleanest river in Europe. Being unpopulated and somewhat remote Gorgany is considered to be the most difficult region of the Carpathian Montains – a perfect place to find real and unforgettable adventure.

In 2008 Gorgany Race started near the Osmoloda village, Ivano-Frankivsk region.

Competition was held in “trek-sprint” category including walking/running/orienteering distance / rafting / scrambling/climbing technique. The teams from 2 to 4 people had to cover the distance of about 90 km along the difficult mountain terrain in less than 30 hours.

Only 6 teams out of 23 could cover the whole route of the race compleating all the required tasks. As the result of the tough competiotion the awards were shared by Ferrino Extreme Marathon Team (Kiev-Zhytomyr), Hutsuly-VDV (Ivano-Frankivsk), K-2 (Lviv). The winners of Gorgany Race 2008 and the holders of Gorgany Cup became Oleksandr Olivson (the president of the Ukrainian Association of Adventure Racing) and Taras Koniuhov. As one of the valuable awards they got Himlite D tent from Czech manufacture Trimm (official sponsor of Gorgany Race 2008).
